DieselBodine 0
I've recently bought a 2013 Spark. I haven't driven it very far yet, but have smashed my head multiple times on what I think they call above door "assist handles." In all the decades I've been driving I've never had a need for such an unnecessary obstacle to be inches away from my head. It sticks out just waiting to contact my head. I've managed to crack my head on it while exiting my car several times and while just sitting in my car. Anyone else have a problem with these "assist handles?"
Greg_E 211
They have handles? I don't think my LS model has these, but now I need to check when I get in to go to work tomorrow.
dbnspark 7
Never hit my head once. How tall are you? I'm 6'6" and don't have a problem. I do have a problem not seeing the traffic light if I'm the first one in line. Got to duck to see the light.
Widget 36
My car has a sunglasses holder above the drivers door, no handle
Greg_E 211
Mine does have handles, never noticed them before.
westernpa25 16
never hit my head on them but I'm only 5'9. I do find the A pillars to be a tad bit wide.. I guess thats the price you pay for side curtain airbags. Glad to see another PA owner on here welcome!! Edited January 17, 2013 by westernpa25 DieselBodine

Now you have something to hang onto while drifting around corners. :PI've recently bought a 2013 Spark. Anyone else have a problem with these "assist handles?"Have you tried adjusting your seat position? Maybe you're sitting a tad bit too tall or too far forward or something? Last resort, you can probably unscrew the driver's side one. Edited January 17, 2013 by Trancer07
CappyScags 1
I've never had an issue with mine, but I'm on the short side. The husband likes to hold onto the passenger handle when I take turns with any amount of speed.
Greg_E 211
This car does tend to make you want to car on the fast side of things, still wish it was within the SCCA Solo rules.
CappyScags 1
I would love the chance to race one. There's a shop in the area that has been working on turboing a Spark, that would be fun to drive!
Greg_E 211
Turbo lowered Spark... 2014 model to compete with the Fiat 500 Abarth. Just speculation but maybe it will happen, and if they do it right the fuel mileage won't really be affected during highway driving.
DieselBodine 0
Thanks for all the replies. I'm 5'11". I think if you're shorter these handles are too far above your head. If you're taller you're seeing it in front of your eyes. At my height I don't see it, just clunk my head on it. I've tried adjusting how I sit and haven't hit my head in a while. Guess I'll have to live with these handles, either way.
GRarchitect 3
They don't bother me, and my wife insists on them for cornering when I'm driving! For sure!
