Crutchfield Car Stereo said No Recommendation

Recommended Posts

Crutchfield had an "ask an expert" section, so I asked what recommendations they would make regarding replacing the Stock Radio.

Here is what I got back..

"Thanks for your e-mail.
As of right now, we do not recommend replacing your stock stereo. The issue is that when you replace your factory radio, you will lose your door chimes. I wish I had better news for you.

Either kit comes with an interface to keep the chimes and factory warnings...

my car is proof... i hear all the stock chimes, rings, dings, OEM sounds in mine.

if you get the cheaper kit you will only lose Onstar... everything else stays the same.

not much of an expert...

Crutchfield is a great company, but they offer instant gratification, a head unit, and harness. There is a little more involved in pulling a head unit out of a Spark. Actually most manufacturers are running more and more configurations, personal, and OEM , through the head unit. Being aftermarket units are being made for a variety of cars, it is becoming more complicated to switch out.

Thanks everyone.

I just got a call from Bob of Crutchfield, and they are getting a kit and wiring from Metra tomorrow and will updating their files.

But first they want to install and test one in a car and check everything out.

So.... looks like you can order everything from Cruychfield after all. Just wait a few days.

I think if you order a radio, the reduce the price for wiring and bezel stuff.... again I think.

Plus free shipping I think.
