I think the easiest swap would be an le2 out of a Cruze/ sonic. The easiest way would be to bolt it up to the stock trans. Then you have to worry about what clutch to use for the extra power since it's likely an upgraded clutch will never be made for our cars. The electrical is also another issue. I've done many engine swaps but none with immobilizers and other modern electronics to worry about

Yea the easiest swap to me would be the le2 out of the Cruze or the lfv 1.5l out of the Malibu. The Both share the same block at the one in our car. The lfv never came with a manual trans but I bet the flywheel from a Cruze would work. Along with the Cruze 6 speed transmission(m32 gearbox). I say the m32 because they make a limited slip differential for it.
That would bump you up to 163hp at the crank with all stock parts. And I believe everything would bolt up for the most part. I have done ALOT of research and that seams to be the best option besides a custom one off build
