2015 spark key fob only works on trunk lock

Recommended Posts

2015 Chevrolet Spark, key FOB and the button in the cabin only locks and unlocks the trunk, NOT the 4 doors. The key fob may be programmed incorrectly. There’s another possibility: the car doesn’t have power door locks, only power trunk locks, which is really weird though. The reason is that there is no button inside the car that locks and unlocks all doors. Any suggestions? Thanks

I haven't seen a Spark with that configuration but looking at a 2015 Spark owner manual it does indicate that remote keyless entry (RKE) is optional.  Also you only get door lock/unlock switches on front doors with that option.  For vehicle without RKE it shows a switch on instrument panel below the driver side vent which does lock/unlock of the liftgate. That switch ISN'T present when you have the door lock/unlock switches.  The ignition key for such a vehicle is a base level key which doesn't have any buttons.  If your fob has lock/unlock and vehicle locate/panic buttons it might be that someone purchased a replacement uplevel key for the vehicle thinking they could enable RKE functionality.

Yes, your pictures of actual vehicle match the owner manual graphics.  Thanks for posting them to show what it actually looks like.  In case you ever run into any further questions about what options your vehicle has or doesn't have there is a "Service Parts Identification" label on inside vertical wall in your glovebox.  You shouldn't ever post a picture of the entire label because it contains your VIN but it does have a COMPLETE list of what are GM calls Regular Production Option (RPO) codes which cover in detail all the features your vehicle contains.  For example, the label on my 2015 spark contains 150 such codes!

I don't believe that GM makes available to public a web site that can be filtered to your vehicle/model year that allows one to easily decode these codes.  Many of them are not very important to an actual customer and many have pretty obscure descriptions and most are standard codes which are on all vehicles.

You can easily search internet for a list of GM RPO codes (watch out for pay sites, none of which I have ever used) and those pages might be of some help when trying to look something up but the list might be specific to a certain model/model year and so don't contain all the codes you might see for your Spark.  To make matters worse GM sometimes "retires" and then later "recycles" codes so that a code that was assigned one definition for a past model year might mean something else on a new model.  From year to year the actual code text description across all GM vehicle lines ARE consistent.  However the codes might not be used consistently by different models.  Because of this it is kind of easy to get tripped up by these codes if you try digging too deeply.  But they do have their uses in some situations for figuring out content of a specific vehicle.

In the case of door lock-related RPOs for the 2015 Spark I know that "AU3" and "AU4" are  some of the ones ones that are related to power door locks that show up on the label for my Spark but might NOT show up on the label for yours if you don't have power door locks.

AU3 = LOCK CONTROL SIDE DR, ELEC

AU4 = LOCK CONTROL SIDE DR, ELEC, AUTOMATIC

There is at least one other RPO code I EXPECTED would have show up on the label for my Spark because of the related Keyless Entry System (the uplevel key fob with buttons to lock/unlock doors) that I have seen used with GM vehicles but it isn't there (but yet I DO have the feature).  This is a good example of where specific RPO codes aren't used consistently across different GM models so it is really easy to go down a rabbit hole on this topic.
