My old car was easy to take apart. YES! This is something I need to do also. But I'm not sure what they used on the multifunction display, it might be an electroluminescent sheet and may not be able to get this in red. The turn indicator and headlight indicator also really need to be something else or a lot less bright!!!
thecrowtv 8
well Greg if you get brave enough to take yours apart let me know how it does Jopar_X
Greg_E 211
Time to enquire about the factory service manual again, might be close enough to order. You can see how to pull it off the steering column in my fog light install thread, two bolts and it is free to move.
thecrowtv 8
Greg, service manual out yet?

thecrowtv 8
this evening i tried accessing the light is under the A/C and Heat panel the one that shines near the cupholders and the usb port. It looks like lights on a circuit board type deal. I gotta figure out how to replace that light with a red one.
thecrowtv 8
alright took the instrument panel apart. Non user replaceable lights, LEDS soldered onto the circuit board.

Greg_E 211
Got pictures and a measurement of the LEDs? That would save me a little time when I rip mine apart. I assume they are little surface mount parts, but there are a couple different sizes to choose from.
thecrowtv 8
nah i didnt take pics it was quite the pain in the ass
Greg_E 211
Maybe I'll try to grab mine when it goes in for the deer repair.
dbnspark 7
I just replaced my dome/map light and cargo area with white LEDs. I have done this in other cars with great results. Here are some photos. Thanks for posting, I just bought them too.
Phil_Can 2
I did too. I replaced the back one like 2 weeks ago because they were only like 4 bucks, now I am waiting for the front one.
bluer101 241
I'm going to be changing my rear led. I bought under car LEDs and interior LEDs bars. I'm going to have 2 12 inch white led bars in the cargo area to light up the Kicker sub.
TheMission 8
I bought both of these as well AWESOME lights and the dome light is super, super bright! Less than 5 minutes to do. jibb3r 29
I'm all for LED lights, I had them (VLEDs) in my Monte Carlo and was very pleased. However, how is that dome light above installed? I see it's a universal type connector, so does the LED panel just sit on the lens? The ones I had were bulb specific, never used the universals before.

So I centered and stuck the panel to the festoon adapter after it was installed.

TheMission 8
Yep, it's an easy universal connection, with the panel sitting on the lense for me. I don't have any vibration with it. It borders on being too bright. Edited April 11, 2013 by TheMission
jibb3r 29
It borders on being too bright. I could see that. The OEM light is pretty blinding in the pure darkness. The bright white illumination is worth it though.
Jason C Daubenspeck 0
I want to add the lights to the front dome/map light but don't want to risk cracking something on my wife's new car that she doesn't want me playing around with :-) My question is in regards to that first post and the picture. Does just the plastic clear cover right below the light come off, or does the entire brownish thing including around the extra buttons and things come off? Which one should I remove to replace the light? Anyone? Thanks!
