What type of gas to use?

Recommended Posts

At least it's not a Mini or a Fiat, those are the two small cars that require premium fuel. I found premium fuel only makes a small difference in very hot weather, in temps above 100 degrees, otherwise no difference in performance or mpgs.

I think if I were driving though a state like that where it is really hot, I might err on the side of caution and run 89 octane.

Idk about that. I live in the desert (Tucson Az) and mine runs just fine on the 87 octane here and temps are now in the low 100s.(was 107 yesterday). If anything, my Spark seems to run better in the hot, dry weather, I DO use gas that is NOT 10% ethanol however because it is available out here. Sadly in many places folks are stuck with the ethanol gas.I hate the stuff.
