Jeffrey Makela 6
some race car guy at work said that sparks motor is to small to last 100,000 miles. I know someone with a 2007 aveo with 180,000 miles. so I think he is wrong.
Greg_E 211
The engine lasting is the least of my concerns, if properly maintained I expect it to easily go more than 150,000 miles. I am far more concerned about body rot from the salt! Gossamer and psquare75
Ataristic 5
Don't see why not, its a proven powerplant, being used in harsh conditions the world over, and in countries where people keep their cars for a long time. It also helps that it has a timing chain instead of a timing belt, adding to the longevity. the required use of full synthetic oils also helps.

Dori 13
10 year, 100,000 mile power train warranty... Sure as hell is going to last 100,000 miles!!
austex04 48
Of course it will, and then the knocking starts at 101k miles, LOL. Even the 3 cylinder Metros are known to roll over 200+k miles without rebuilding, I know someone who owned one that did. Another friend currently has a Yaris with 330k, and still on original engine and auto trans. I had a Ford Escort that was running great at 324k miles on it's original engine, which was designed by Mazda, of course. I also driven a old Mercedes 190E that had 440k miles on the original 2.3 4cyl engine AND auto transmission, but that was a car built to last. All of those cars were well maintained their entire lives, though. I wouldn't expect it to last long if it's constantly revved high, driven hard, or neglected. tommyspark 24
Like greg said, if properly maintained; and not dogged out, I don't see why these little engines won't last an easy 150K......
quietspark 0
Small engine in a small car. There isn't a logical correlation that a small engine in a small car won't last. Like you, I know of high mileage small cars. In fact, I can think of more high mileage examples of smaller cars than big ones.
NoSprak 17
There's no reason a modern engine cannot make 200K miles. The electronics and 6,7,8,9 speed automatic transmissions are the planned obsolescence.

Greg_E 211
Considering my current troubles and the five or six other people that are also having the same trouble, I have to retract my statement above! So far this is not turning out to be as trouble free as my little Chevy Metro hatch with the 1 liter 3 cylinder motor.
weetsj 39
i am almost at 100.000 km some guys are already over it i think the engine will do fine Edited March 12, 2014 by weetsj
2Pisceans 0
Hey fellow Sparkers! I just wanted to add that I drive "hard", but I get regular oil changes but I still do get concerned about the engine life. I agree that with routine maintenance, the engine should do fine. Does anybody notice that the Spark and Sonic are NOT advertised like the other Chevy cars and trucks?
mitogt 5
mine has barely 40,000kms and can believe can go easy 100,000kms with no problem, Next year I will get a 2010 0r 2012 tahoe LTZ for family moving , kids are getting big, the Spark is to small for my family, I consider it a Bike with a TUX jajaja

Retired old Gearhead 201
100 000 km in 32 months and still going strong Now that the PCV issue that caused a lot of doubt about the engine reliability/design has been resolved, I too believe the 1.25L VVT engine can last 100Kmi++. My mechanic even chimed in when I first got it that the design seemed solid and now with over 50Kmi on our 2013 the fuel mileage is better than ever and burns no noticeable oil idles and runs smoothly, starts with a flick of the key and power is still as good as when new. I know engines very well and I get a good feeling this is a rock solid engine and can see that my oil is still fairly clean color just before the ±7,000mi oil change. The guy who delivers our Pizza drives a 2013 Spark with the 4sp auto tranny and is already very close the 100,000mi mark and says he has had no issues..no oil burning and only thing that has failed on the car was the two rear wheel bearings and he is on the road zipping around and driving the heck out of it from 11am to 2am 6days a week and told me he gets the cheapest 5w20 oil he can find by the case when on sale. Only had tires and front brake pads and rotors replaced at 60Kmi..also had to have some of the exhaust piping from the CAT back replaced due to rust perforation at the upper rear U section just before the muffler at 80Kmi. Replaced rusted exhaust piping: http://img910.imageshack.us/img910/2435/FBrhw9.jpg Edited August 24, 2015 by Retired old Gearhead
sparkfanatic 70
Like many imported cars , the Sparks exhaust is pricey . That's about the only part that I find expensive , even the transmission and motor are low cost . Even through all the road salt of CT winters my mufflers look new . The pipes do have surface corrosion though . I'll be keeping an eye on it .
Skids 108
Guy in the spark forum on FB has over 101K miles on his 2013 and still going strong. That's a lot of wear and tear in such a short time. Just take care of it like any car and you should be fine.
mitogt 5
just hit the 113,000 kms or about 70,000 miles, no leaks, no problem keeps going like a charm, mine is 2013 5 speed LS
Chevyspark14 0
My 2014 Chevy spark automatic has 235k miles, original engine, I did just have the cvt trans replaced a month ago, but it lasted 234k miles, drives great still
