Lovgun7 75
seems like a cool app. Main Page http://torque-bhp.com/wiki/Main_Page app is about $5 but they also have a Free version Whats Needed http://torque-bhp.com/wiki/Vehicle_Requirements Bluetooth 16pin adaptors supported http://torque-bhp.com/wiki/Bluetooth_Adapters for the money these are WAY too expensive but the wiki does say that a few ebay products work. E bay cheaper bluetooth opti on http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-ELM327-V1-5-OBD2-II-Bluetooth-Car-Diagnostic-Interface-Scanner-For-Android-/290939929562?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43bd5f03da Ive already checked for the pin and its located right above where you would normally put your left leg... its there exposed ready to go (poor design might i add) right now im working on getting the right single din stereo to go with my new Metra Faceplate unit, probably gonna go with the Pioneer DEH-X9500BHS http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEH-X9500BHS-Single--Dash-Receiver/dp/B00A02DX9S/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1374704492&sr=1-1&keywords=PIONEER+9500 it has everything i want, pandora, bluetooth calls and music, Aux, 2 rear USB, hd radio. I also have a Samsung Galaxy tab 2 that i barely use (got it free with my tv) that will go excellent with my car. and gonna use the Arkon Mount http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-TAB-FSM-Tablet-Seat-Mount/dp/B00585CLSQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1374723780&sr=1-1&keywords=tab+mount using my Tab to have those gauges that we dont have available while driving and it checks Fault Codes within the app with a check engine option and CLEAR fault codes within the app...NICE heres a video app would work with a Tablet, Android Phone, Iphone, Iphod touch, Ipad, Ipad mini also seems like theres different themes you can download so you dont have just a stock gauge. Greg_E 211
I have the free one, and a $12 BT adapter, seems to work fine, but the adapter always has power so it will drain the battery if you leave it attached. Jopar_X
Jopar_X 7
I use the paid version of Torque....LOVE IT!!!!! I have the wireless Kiwi adapter, with on/off switch. The app is seriously tits, and I believe I purchased the adapter from ThinkGeek for $99 Edited July 25, 2013 by Jopar_X
Greg_E 211
Ah, one of the expensive adapters. I might have to look into a power switch on mine, there is plenty of room in the case. For now I just put it in the glove box when I'm not using it. Also been thinking of buying the application, it is pretty neat. Jopar_X
icepick 9
Anyone else thinking what I'm thinking? Maybe. With this app, and a tablet, you could easily make a HUD. Jopar_X

Greg_E 211
There are several other ways to make a new electronic dashboard out, but this is by farther the cheapest.
icepick 9
Oh man. I answered, but my post got lost in the web. An old trick illusion called "peppers ghost". A sheet of lexan so you can still see the road, reflecting the image from the tablet (or device of choice). Sure there are other way to achieve a HUD, but for a cost effective option it could work. Lovgun7 75
Ahhhhh got it... originally I was gonna buy this power acoustik 9' tablet style display... but then it lacked gps which was an extra $150. Wasn't a deal breaker but then a buddy told me to just get a single din and tablet mount and use my tab 2 which is 7' and I hardly ever use it and has gps ready to go so with that i switched ideas and i just bought the 9500bhs last night along with the mount cant wait to get them in. the torque app can be tested via gps with a few gauges and it works well im gonna get an ebay adaptor ...still trying to keep my stereo upgrade under budget and I'm at 500 right now including unit, faceplate, front and rear speakers, sub with built in amp, mount
Jopar_X 7
I installed a tablet mount in my Ion, and loaded Torque onto it. I created a virtual HUD and it looked STELLAR on the tablet. Looks great even when using your phone with a dock. Depending on the adapter, the info is nearly instantaneous. $5 for the paid app is a steal!
NOMAD 1
Do you think the app would fine with a several year old Android phone that isn't being serviced by any carrier? It's just sitting around in a drawer right now. Thanks.
Greg_E 211
It costs about $12 plus shipping to find out, you need to buy the bluetooth adapter. ELM327 is one of the cheap ones and seems to work fine in my car, but haven't used it in a while. Finding one that turns off when the ignition is off or has a power switch would be nice, then you could maybe leave it connected all the time. Mine is always on so it will put a drain on the battery, it lives in the glove box.

NOMAD 1
tommyspark, do you remember which adapter you have? ebay link? I like the idea of one that shuts off with the car. Thanks.
Greg_E 211
Yeah, I might buy another that will shut off with the key.
tommyspark 24
I think I literally got the last one. In the thread I started about the app I posted the link, but when you'd click it, it'd say "currently unavailable". Now when you click the link it just brings you to Amazon. I'll get a pic of the actual adapter for you though in case you find it on ebay or elsewhere......

tommyspark 24
I've now started using the app more and more often. I used it last week at church to read a CEL for a young lady, and we flushed my buddies radiator and coolant yesterday, but his cobalt does not have a temp gauge. Used it for that too
Greg_E 211
I haven't had any luck reading error codes, but the ones I've tried to read have been things like ABS unit.

Greg_E 211
Guess I'll have to put that on my list, just wish I could pay with something other than a credit card, I don't really trust Google with my money. Maybe one of those visa gift cards will do the job.
