No the Internet can give you a valuable tool to combat stupid dealers.

I felt the same way, but up to now, I still have no regrets, I've never had as much fun with a car, as I've been having with the Spark. Although a pain in the ass, this a/c problem will be resolved. I

Our ac generally works great. But im starting to notice everyone in a while it blows not so cold...I wanna say like coming to a stop. However there are other times at idle itll freeze us out.

That's the first place that has admitted to knowing about the problems.

My "specialist" did mention "dealers that ive delt with have been successful with this issue"

he's talking about dealers in Texas ... not sure what part though

Picked up my car after the "fix" freon recharge...

for now i see no difference BUT im sure my car was baking under the sun all day and i have to take that into consideration ... will test over the weekend and see whats going on

With than fan on 1 it should cycle about every 20 seconds unless it is really hot. The reason is there is not enough air moving to warm the evaporator. Now if the fan is on 4 and the duct temperature is like 50 degrees, the compressor really shouldn't cycle because you are keeping the evap. above the freezing point. For most cars the duct temperature on fan 1 will be about 40 degrees F which means the evaporator is running right around freezing. I'm told this 40 degree rule holds for pretty much all cars Mercedes to Yugo.

That's I will try the fan speed set to 4 today. I have it set to 3 most of the time with recirculate on all the time.

Just got my Spark back from the service department and the A/C compressor had to be replaced. The service technician said the A/C compressor had come apart so the dealership put on a new compressor and overhauled the entire A/C system. When I got the car home I put on the metal license plate; yep all this in less than 1,500 miles. Anyway, the A/C blows cold now and I love the car. I also received a MyLink update that fixed a connection problem.

Alright so ive been able to test it on seperate days ...

Definately improved. Although im getting a horrible smell when the A/C starts up...

still want to test it for a few weeks to make sure the issue is gone...

no call back from the "specialist" since the dealer visit

I have noticed the cold cool issue in my 2013 1LT Spark. When it turns cool, I turn the temp knob from coldest towards the warm zone and then back to coldest. I notice an immediate change to cold air most of the time. Has anyone else experienced this? This makes me wonder if this is more of an issue with the temp door and not a compressor issue. Have read all of this topic (all 15 pages and the other thread of "Do you have cold cool cold cool...") and did not see any mention of this possible temp solution. I have not taken it to the dealer to look at as this temp solution usually works for me. Just wondering if this temp solution works for other people with an AC issue.

Part if the supposed fix is the blend door cam and air sensor then the BCM update.

If you're located in a part of the country, where the temperatures, are cooling down, I would wait. But I would call the GM customer service line, and get a SR# (Service Request) , they will try to get you to take the car in, but that's not necessary at this point. The SR# will get your problems documented. Unless you have a long stretch of hot weather, it is almost impossible to determine, whether or not the a/c is experiencing the cold/cool issue. Possibly they also may have a better fix, than the uneffective patches they are now applying. Now, if you are getting a white mist flowing out of the vents, then that would be an obvious issue that I would take in now.

The white mist only occurred at the start of the problem, I assumed it was Freon or coolant leaking from the AC

I remember my father telling me something about the AC also effecting the heat on my old car which had bad AC and therefore slow / bad heating. Heat will be an issue this winter can anyone clarify this?

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi All,

I'm thinking about buying a 2014 Spark, but I want to be fairly sure the AC problems from prior years have been worked out. I've read the previous pages and it still seems there may be issues. Can 2014 Spark owners chime in about how their AC is working?

Thanks very much!

David
