2017 1.4L Spark LS Turbo project

I just installed my oil catch can. Real Pita, due to space restrictions but came out pretty good over all. The blocked off pipe to the left of the air filter is my intercooler tubing.- 92 replies

So, after 70k I'm starting to get a rattle out of my transmission. It sounds like it's an input shaft bearing starting to go. Clutch still feels good as well as the transmission shifting nice and smooth. Noise only happens at idle with the car in neutral. As soon as I depress the clutch pedal, the noise stops. Sounds like a chain rattle. Looks like I may be replacing the clutch and the bearing at the same time....really a let down as this is only at 70k and I don't think installing a turbo on the car without doing these things first would be wise.

They break super easy. I had the same happen. It's easier to remove the whole arm and change the wiper. There is a plastic cover that covers the nut holding it to the motor. Remove the cover, the nut, and then pull the arm with a slight rocking motion and it will pull off.

Finished the vent install today. Really happy with how it turned out. Went from a huge dent to a functional heat draw vent. I imagine it will help with the heat from the turbo when it gets put in this summer. Oh! added the custom front lip as well!
-
Almost done! I have to make some bracing for the vent just in case the adhesive isn't enough with the heat. Also looking to add some mesh under the vent to prevent any debris from entering the engine bay through the vent.
-
Preview of what it will look like when complete.

The hood pins were not too bad to install and fairly inexpensive. I also got the hole for the vent fully cut out and painted the edges of all the cutouts to prevent rust. i removed the hood latch assembly after to store it just in case I wanted to return to a stock hood.
-
So the hood latch aligned and locked, unfortunately the hood is now so light it is incredibly hard to get the latch spring to lock. So... I'm installing a set of hood pins and removing the latch hook and frame.
-
Updates... Still working on it. Need to make a new latch brace if I want to keep the stock latch. I could go with hood pins but I'd rather not.

I dropped my exhaust today and aligned it with the DNA Sonic exhaust. Thanks LittleBlue for the idea. I am using this exhaust paired with some other parts to give a true 2.5" straight thru design from my turbo back when I install it. Nobody has pictures of how the exhaust pairs up so, I took lots of them to let people know that it is a really close match. The DNA Sonic exhaust stops at the two bolt flange. I bought other exhaust components to carry that forward to the turbo downpipe. That will be welded to the front of the flex pipe. I still want to change that muffler tip though.

Glad to see your back working on the project!

Since I am going to be putting in the hood vent soon, I might as well spice up the rest of the car. Here are the parts I just ordered in. Keep in mind, these all cost me less than $100 shipped, less the C7 hood vent I will be covering in a separate post. I'll follow up with pictures of the parts mounted. If one of these seems to just not look right, I'll just sell them in the " social marketplace". Those little find are most likely going under the rear bumper as foil fins but I have to get them in to see what they look like first.

So, my buddy dropped an armior on the hood of my car.... Not his fault ( he is missing a hand ). Notice the dent on the front of the car. So, I've decided to do a bit of modding. Here is the vent I'm going to be putting in attached. If you can't guess what it comes from, it's from a Corvette. Bought it for $80 used on eBay. I'm thinking about dropping in some red l.e.d. lights under it after. Still a lot to do since I'm still working on the turbo install and exhaust at the same time.

Update: Royal Purple Synchromax fully synthetic works excellent! $21 a quart at Pep-boys. I recommend this over the Mobile 1 since the Mobile 1 is just too thick and takes too long to warm up and do its job.

The strut mounts are under the cover where your wiper motor is located.

All I have to say is the fuel pump is not for the faint of heart... Pita! So much has to be modified! The Kemso replacement pump is an inch longer. Unfortunately, everything is fitted together perfectly in the fuel pump assembly. I recommend skipping this modification unless absolutely necessary. It's in after a day of working on the car and dropping the tank three times. Third time being a mile from home to finish the repair in a church back lot. The Kemso pump is actually really, really high flowing. So much, that it blew a hole in the side of the plastic flow tube when I made the mistake of- 92 replies

Starting more work on the car tomorrow on Easter. I decided to replace the fuel pump as a precaution as it was a cheap replacement. Went with a 340lph Kemso ( Walbro knockoff ).- 92 replies
