General Motors announced today Marcos Purty will be appointed vice president of Global Workplace Safety, effective June 1. Purty will replace Jim Glynn, who will retire after more than 40 years of dedicated service, effective Sept. 1. Purty returns to GM from Amazon, where for the past 18 months he was vice president, North America Fulfilment, Amazon Robotics Sortable Operations. Today, GM announced a feature standard in its Ultium-based EVs that captures and repurposes waste energy from the battery. Through the Ultium Platform’s energy recovery system, this waste energy can increase a vehicle’s range, reduce battery energy needed for heating, increase charging speed and even enable sportier driving. Glencore and General Motors Co. announced today a multi-year sourcing agreement in which Glencore will supply GM with cobalt from its Murrin Murrin operation in Australia. Cobalt is an important metal in the production of EV batteries, and the cobalt processed from Australia will be used in GM’s Ultium battery cathodes, which will power electric vehicles such as the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC HUMMER EV and Cadillac LYRIQ. General Motors today announced the creation of a new organization — Commercial Growth Strategies and Operations — under the leadership of Steve Hill. This new organization will oversee current cross-brand activities that strengthen GM’s brands and the company’s position in the market. Today, General Motors marks another major milestone in its commitment to an all-electric future as Cadillac formally celebrates the beginning of retail production of the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ at GM’s Spring Hill, Tennessee, assembly plant. Today, General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) announced it is acquiring SoftBank Vision Fund 1’s equity ownership stake in Cruise for $2.1 billion and separately will make an additional $1.35 billion investment in Cruise, replacing a previous commitment made by the fund in 2018. Since GM acquired a majority ownership stake in 2016, Cruise has made self-driving cars a reality and is a leader on the pathway to commercial autonomous ridesharing and delivery, creating significant value for both GM shareholders and Cruise’s minority shareholders. General Motors celebrated its top global suppliers this week at its 30th annual Supplier of the Year awards ceremony held in Phoenix, Arizona. Today, General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) and POSCO Chemical announced that they are working with the governments of Canada and Quebec to build a new facility in Bécancour, Quebec, estimated at $400 million (C$500 million). The new facility will produce cathode active material (CAM) for GM’s Ultium batteries, which will power electric vehicles such as the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC HUMMER EV and Cadillac LYRIQ. General Motors (NYSE: GM) today announced the appointment of Shilpan Amin as GM senior vice president and president, GM International. Amin replaces Steve Kiefer, who has elected to retire after almost 40 years in the auto industry. Amin’s appointment and Kiefer’s retirement are effective April 1. View the full article
