  1. This opened it up all the way. Since the head is a quad valve, there are two valves dumping into each manifold port. At about 3/4 inch in the ports split into two with a definite increase in the total port volume.
  2. Great find! If what you say is true, I'd like to tweek mine to go to 100%!
  3. I'm using my 2014 Spark for my 110 mile commute. It keeps the miles off my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and My 2012 Silverado 2500 HD gas long bed with 33" tires and a 300lbs Ranch Hand bumper. FYI the 2269 lbs curb weight of the Spark is the same as my favorite 1972 BMW 2002. My old bimmer was carb'd with only 90 HP and a 13 second 0- 60 time. It was still one of my faves except that it didn't have AC. Even though My Sparky is FWD, it's power to weight is the same as the 2002 since I ported the exhaust. I'm having a blast driving it in the higher RPM ranges as much as the Bimmer and yet I can
  4. I got the stripped version with no my link and manual for $11K. I replaced the factory's terrible radio with a JVC double DIN unit from Crutchfield and put Blaupunkt speakers in the dash. I did the mods listed in my post about 100 HP. The post title is a satire as I estimate I'm actually in the low 90's for HP. My best MPG is 49 MPG for 55 miles @ 55 MPH. My usual tank MPG for my 110 mile commute is 45 before the hot weather (upper 90's) set in. Now with constant AC, I'm only getting 42 MPG per tank. The exhaust porting has made the most difference in performance and efficiency. That said, I
  5. I noted that same hesitation when I test drove one with a CVT. For that reason and that overpriced, underwhelming My Link, I bought the manual. I have zero hesitation with acceleration.
  6. I'd like to see the install under the hood.

  8. I'll work on getting the photo bucket going. I opened up the exhaust ports without removing the head by stuffing the ports with paper towels and using my shop vac frequently. I also stuffed the header ports with towels. The stock headers are about 23 mm in diameter. The gaskets about 25 mm. I was surprised to see the head port only 20 mm! I basically beveled the outer 3/4 inch with a carbide cutter on a dremel flex shaft (essential to use the flex shaft) then blended and polished it with 120 grit sanding drum at low speed. HIgh speed for the cutter, low speed for the sander. There was enough
  9. I have more pics but the upload is limited to only 500KB. The foil is just the outer covering for duct insulation available at Lowes/ HD/ etc. It is meant to keep the intake air shielded from the heat of the exhaust. The zip ties are needed because the adhesive looses its grip with heat. FYI my first 50 mile commute since the exhaust porting yielded an honest 49 MPG. The higher temps on the afternoon commute home lowered the average to 47 MPG.
  10. I haven't seen much on the forum on engine mods. I am an old school tinkerer and can't leave well enough alone. I have done the following mods: smooth out the rough edges inside the stock throttle body and grind off the protruding butterfly screws, increase the diameter of the exhaust ports by about 10 per cent of the radius (produces a 20 per cent increase in flow), modify the stock air box with three well placed 1/2 " holes at a right angle to the inflow for a true ram air setup (google on Bernoulli Principle), add a K&N drop in panel filter and insulate the stock Air intake duct with ad
  11. My dealer told me there is a flash reprogram for rough running when I went in for my freebe oil change...
  12. When my Chevy Colorado with only 4 k miles was hit in the rear axle in 2012, I tried to go the lemon law route since GM could not get me a new axle assembly. They had already closed the old plant and "had no spare axles". I got the same cluster f**k as you from GN reps in Detroit. They ducked out of the law since the damage was from an accident but skirted the entire real issue that they failed to provide a replacement drivetrain part for a current model year truck. I finally had to get a junkyard axle with 90k miles on it for my new truck which I promptly traded in.
  13. weetsj, Your grille paint really cleans up the front design and makes it less "busy". I'm off to the store to get the plastic dip to do the same!
  14. I just drive home a 2014 Spark LS 5 speed. I drove the CVT but it was gutless. My new job to start 3/17/14 is a 100 mile round trip commute. I have already ordered the K&N filter for this. I also have upgraded speakers for the dash coming from Crutchfield. I am researching the prospect of adding cruise control. I am happy to find this forum.
