Clicking (?) sound in front wheels

Recommended Posts

So I've had this sound in my front wheels for about a month now. It started off where I could barely hear it, or couldn't tell which tire it was coming from, to now I definitely hear it in both front wheels. It's coming from the wheel area itself, and goes away when I apply the brakes (at any speed - I've even held the gas at speed and applied slight pressure to the brakes, noise goes away). It's almost like something from the brake system is rubbing, with each revolution of the tire, then as I apply the brakes, whatever is rubbing, is pulled in so it doesn't rub anymore...?? If that makes sense. As I start out, it's slow. Speed increases, the noise occurs more often, slow down, its less often etc..
I'm gonna get it into the doctor soon, I just wondered if that sounds familiar to anyone?

Hi Jibb3r,

Very sorry for this! If you decide you want to bring this to your dealership's attention, and need a little assistance along the way, feel free to send us over a private message. We would be happy to get in touch with them to see if they can pinpoint the cause to your brake noises. Looking forward to your response!

Try turning off the traction control and see if that makes a difference. If it does..mention that to the service guy at your garage or dealer.

I will try that next time I'm driving.

I drove about an hour away from home the other day, most of it highway. Today was the first time I've driven it since then, I could barely hear it, I thought it was gone.

I have an appointment Monday.

That has no effect on the noise.

Check if the noise increases on bumpy roads.

Most of the roads around here are bumpy. The noise is definitely a lot louder some days than others. Some days it sounds like someone is banging spoons together outside my windows, I can hear it over the music. Other times, I can barely hear it, with the music off. Hopefully when I take it in tomorrow, it's loud enough to where they can hear it!

Well, when I took it in, I couldn't hear it at all, so of course they couldn't replicate it.
They took the wheels off, and took me into the service area to show me the issue, or what they think was the issue, I guess? He showed me the outside edge is rusted on the rotors, and said the thick chunks of rusted metal are hitting the shims (?) on the caliper.
He said they could shave the rust off for $105, I passed. Oh well.

I have also had this problem. I think the ceramic pads wear the rotors faster than the pads wear themselves! I had quite an edge left on my rotors, and they rusted pretty significant on top of that. You could hear me coming from miles away..  rock auto sold rotors for pretty cheap so i threw new ones on
