Lee1 1
When I recently bought my daughter a used 2013 Salsa Red Spark 1LT, the only cosmetic flaw was pretty significant road rash (multiple chips) on and around the hood. I got a good enough deal on it so I purchased it. I started searching around for touch up paint and found a bunch of reviews and videos about www.drcolorchip.com. It seemed easy enough so I bought the kit with squeegee for just under $75 USD shipped. I spent about an hour today and have posted some before and after pictures. I am very impressed with the results. You can find some of them if you are looking closely at an angle or knew where they were, but the end result is much better than the white chips! I am NOT AFFILIATED with this company at all, I just wanted to share as it worked really well for me.
Gossamer 50
Wow! That came out great. I've never heard of this stuff, I'm going to have to look into it since my Salsa LT has the same problem.
Lee1 1
The hardest part is dripping the touch up paint and squeegeeing it messily all over and around the chips. I tried a small area first and then used the blending solution. I was comfortable enough to do the whole hood after that. I waited at least 5 minutes for the paint to dry before blending. Prior to adding paint, I used a q-tip and rubbing alcohol on each chip to remove any wax (I think that took longer than the paint part!). I recommend watching the YouTube videos prior to using it. It really seemed too easy and too good to be true, but I'm a believer. I only wish I would have found this before I used blobby OEM touch up paint on my car!
WaltK 305
Nice job! Looks amazing, surprised it hasn't been more widely advertised.
Lee1 1
Thanks, Walt. It's not cheap, but cheaper than repainting. They use factory color code to mix the batch for your car color so it looks pretty good. At some point, I may try to build up some of the deeper chips but I'm happy with the first pass. I think it was money well spent.
Retired old Gearhead 201
Nice to see someone who is not afraid to apply themselves & takes pride in doing a fairly tricky job! The white primer coat and the lack of clear coat over the final color as is found on most cars is not very good as the final color does not adhere well to the glossy white primer. ChevyBeat 28
RoG, I had same experience with my spark. I bought a kit having white primer, matching color and thinner spray can. I even had doubt on the glossy finish which comes after clear coat and asked the company. They assured that no separate clear coat is required. Alas, I am having that dull matched color strip running from front to rear. Is this ok if I can do clear coat now, 3 month later?

May not adhere well after 3 months and is not required. A polishing/buffer rotary tool can fix that.
ChevyBeat 28
Thanks RoG. Just have two options, one polishing and buffing (I guess results are not permanent, may go for few months). 2nd if clear coat can be applied after doing some fine wet sanding.
