Rev-Hang/Lurching/Accelerating Issues 2014 M/T

Recommended Posts

Mine, a 2014, has the exact same behavior. It will from time to time, between shifts, or in neutral rev up a few thousand rpms. Once it did redline and I had to bang it into gear to stop it, but that was only once.

I can also feel it accelerate by itself once in a while, but just slightly.

It also stalls from time to time when idling.

I did a test last night and I'm not sure I like the results... In fifth gear the car will go 20 miles per hour on level roads with foot off the gas until it hits something. The engine is not happy doi

I don't have a manual transmission Spark, but I get some weird revving on the CVT also. It hesitates at times, especially when trying to move out quickly. It lurches like it's being driven by someone who's never driven a stick, but usually at slow speeds (under 20 mph). Never speeds up unexpected though (thank goodness!). But this is the worst transmission I've ever driven in an automatic (if it is the tranny at fault and not software or something else). Taking it in to Chevy in a few days. Problem is getting more prevalent lately and now at 14,000 miles, it is becoming a safety issue. But again, only happens periodically, but when it does, it's scary to give it gas and it just sits there and revs high, but doesn't move for several seconds. I'm starting to miss the old '98 Metro I traded in for the Spark... it was simple, basic, reliable transportation.

UPDATE: Took the car to a different Chevy dealer for 2 recall services (A/C and PVC). They conducted the work and re-connected the fog light wire that was disconnected by previous dealer. Upon leaving, I noticed that the a/c was now not working at all... compressor did not go on. Drove a few blocks, turned around, and back to the dealer. Obviously, the mechanic did not check his work  . They had the car another hour and said mine was "one in a hundred" that needed to be driven 10 miles before the a/c would work properly. Ugh... seriously?! So I tried again. This time, got in the car and the a/c was working. Pulled out and the car was lurching again. (When I mentioned to the service person about lurching at low speeds and hesitation, he said he has heard that from a lot of Spark owners... no solution offered). Driving home (about 24 miles), the car hesitated upon pulling out into traffic, that luckily I had a lot of room between cars or I could've been easily hit. It hesitated so bad, felt like it might stall. I was NOT happy. But continued on my way, stopping to pick up some groceries. After shopping, I drove the rest of the way home and did not experience anymore funky behaviors. Put a bottle of Techron in and filled up the tank. Since then, it's been running much better. Not sure why.... mechanic thought doing the PVC recall might help. So not sure if it was that or turning it off (like rebooting a computer) or the Techron or combination. So far, so good. My fingers are crossed!

I have a 2014 manual Chevy Spark. I also have experienced the acceleration. I can be pulling up to a stop sign/light. Foot is off the gas pedal and the vehicle wants to continue accelerating. This happens when I'm going down hill and coasting, the vehicle wants to take off. The dealership is giving me the same run around. They don't know what is wrong with it. They asked my wife if I was sure I wasn't catching my foot on the gas pedal. I have been driving stick shifts since 1976. They have replaced the PVC valve and this did not fix the problem.

My Chevy Spark just rolled when I pressed the gas pedal to pull onto the highway.I had to turn the steering wheel hard to roll back off the road to avoid a collision. This is the second time the car has rolled and not accelerated. The cyclist was able to stop and avoided hitting us as we could not get the car to move.I have an automatic transmission. If the gas pedal is pressed almost to the floor or to the floor the car will just roll like it is out of gear or something(that is what I am thinking it is).Took it to the dealership and it had two codes but nothing for what it is doing.

Because it did not set a code they couldn't fix something unless the computer tells them there is a problem.

My 2014 Spark is at the dealership again. The problem I was having has now changed to lurching. The engine revs then lurches without moving as if I slam the brakes.Did this twice trying to accelerate. The guy behind me went around me as I was trying to get the car to move. When I accelerated again the transmission was growling but moving slowly. When it clicked in gear it started moving faster. They have reprogrammed it for the second time. The flap on the gas cover has something broken as it won't close. The clicking in the fan for the defroster they tell me has been fixed but the radio blew so they are ordering another radio for it as this is the second radio replacement.
