Steering Alignment

Recommended Posts

So tomorrow will be the 4th time I have taken my Spark into the dealer to have the steering alignment adjusted. Has anyone else had issues with this? Starting to get frustrating. At first it would pull to the right when i had the steering wheel level, but now it pulls to the left. I don tknow if something is not getting tightened enough or there is something mechanically wrong. But was just wondering if this is a confined issue or other have been having this issue. I plan on expressing my frustration tomorrow as this will be the 4th time they have had to adjust this. And all other times in their mechanics notes they say they test rode it and found steering is off. Then test rode it again and it was set to "factory specifications". In the past when I have picked the vehicle up it would be aligned, but after a couple days of driving it goes out of wack again.

Mine has always pulled to the left, none of the dealers can feel the problem and the alignment is "within" spec so I'm just plain screwed. I'm convinced the rear axle on mine is at the limit of tolerance and it needs to be bent to fix my issues. Not sure if it is the same with yours since they seem to be shifting it side to side. I'd call chevy and see what they say.

They haven't fed me that "within specifications" BS yet, but when they do I will explain that I am not happy with the way the vehicle handles and they need to figure out something for me. I am extremely picky and anal about things like that, and it drives me crazy when things are not perfect! Guess maybe its OCD haha

I think you should still call chevy before you go back there, maybe they can convince the dealer to look a little more closely. Either that or they may get to trade you for a new car or buy back your car since it has been more than lemon law allows.

I've been playing phone tag with a district specialist, Monday I will be contacting him Bout my AC troubles and I will also be informing him about my alignment issues. He told me via voicemail that he will be working closely with me and my dealer to come to a solution to meet my satisfaction. I will tell him I have dropped the vehicle off and he should call the dealer ASAP

That kind of 'wandering' is often caused by a loose, or damaged tie rod end. If the car always pulls to one direction on flat road, it is alignment, but if it sometimes pulls to one side then the other it is usually a tie rod end. Cheap part but the cost is in labor and realignment.

BTW: another sign of a moderately bad tie rod end is the car shaking at high speed..higher the speed over around 70mph, the more it shakes.

On the hoist the bad tie rod end wheel will have some/lots play moving it horizontal (left right).
