  1. No, seriously, Dale Jr. drove and reviewed the car...and LIKED it! http://www.autoblog.com/2014/10/02/dale-earnhardt-jr-review-chevy-spark-video/
  2. I have had my Spark for a year now with no major issues. All cars have some issues at one time or another. As some have pointed out, more people like to complain on the internet than compliment. I have had the AC recall done, even thought I have had no actual problems. The black decals in front of my mirrors have bubbled up from FL heat, had one replaced, having another replaced soon. Other than that, I drive rather sporty and have had no significant problems with my Spark (once I got used to the anemic manual first-gear launch). Getting 32 city average and as high as 48 -50 hwy. $15. a week
  3. Ok, I used to sell these and I have had my LS manual for a year now, so I have had some hands on experience with many Sparks. I also complained to my service dept about having to slip the clutch when launching from a stop, I was told as well that I was driving too aggressively. So I grabbed the keys to a brand new LS manual. It performed in the same manner. So, I asked a co-worker who is an expert manual driver to try a Spark. He also noted that dragging the clutch when launching for a stop is necessary or the clutch will shudder. His comment? "What do you want, it only has 84 horsepower?".
  4. quote: "A separate issue that could prevent the passenger airbag from deploying properly affects 87 Chevrolet Sparks from model years 2012 and 2014, as well as Buick Encores from model year 2013. Another airbag issue affects 37 Chevrolet Corvettes from model year 2014. Neither of those problems have been linked to a crash, the company said." http://money.cnn.com/2014/06/06/autos/gm-new-recalls/index.html?section=money_latest
  5. I want to check my own AC coolant in my Spark. The kit I have says to use the Low valve, but I can only find the one marked "H" (high?). Should be a High and Lower valve. Where is the Low pressure valve so I can check my AC coolant?
  6. Welcome! Please do post pics and info on your power lock conversion.
  7. Ok recap - The oil filler cap seems not to be the problem. I repositioned it, and checked everything again. Bone dry. Changed the AC cabin filter and Febreezed the car, including the slot where the cabin filter goes in. Drove 10 miles with the AC on full blast, vent open for about an hour. Garaged the car. Let it cool down. Drove it another 30 min and... Smell is still there, fresh as ever. So I must have been wrong about the oil filler cap. I had some one else sniff around under the hood, the smell seems to be coming from the back of the engine, on the passenger side. No drips, no mist, no a
  8. The thread about music got me thinking about how many devices one can plug into the aux jack (1/4") in thier spark. Of course there is the USB, but Im not asking about that as many people such as myself have a LS model with the one input jack, which is just fine. What do you have plugged in your AUX jack? I have my Android, tethered to a Scoche microphone lead, so I can talk hands free and stream my music.

  10. Definatelly, and would be easier on the engine too. Even though 1st gear seems to like 3500 rpm to get going from a stop, I get my best gas mileage and the smoothest ride at 2500 rpm from 2nd gear on.
  11. One of my favorite how to videos. I haven't driven stick on a daily basis in years and needed a refresher course for daily driving again. http://www.ehow.com/video_2327201_getting-shift_-manual-transmission-lessons.html I would suggest against rev-matching personally as it seems futile on such a small engine. I agree with austex04 about the shift points, 1st gear likes a higher rev, and it is awkward too. 2nd and so on are much smoother. I use a general 10 - 15 mph rule for each gear. 10-15, 1st, 2nd at 20, 3rd 30 to 35, 4th at 40 and 5th gear from 45 mph and higher. 1st gear as said above
  12. Pandora, Slacker Radio and the MP3 collection of the day via my Android wired through the aux jack. Today's mp3 list includes: Morcheeba The Who Thievery Corporation Powerman 5000
  13. The smell of fresh engine oil is not as strong since I put the oil filler cap on properly. I am going to change the cabin filter asap as some residual odors may be trapped in there. I also considered that the AC may have a leak, but that IIRC it is a different kind of smell. Also, IIRC, the oil for the AC is different than engine oil and is part of the (R134a?) coolant, therefore I would assume that my AC would lose coldness if it were leaking, right? Did run the AC and windows open many a day to no avail. I am baffled at how there can be such a strong odor but no visible residue anywhere
  14. Thanks icepick. This is similar to the Saturn ION....and yes indeed there is a filter. Yesterday I got the diagram and an actual filter at Chevy.
