  1. Yes, GM will not invest money in improving the CVT electronic controls because is is not a money maker for them. Perhaps when gas price goes to $5/gal things could change.
  2. I can understand limits on how dark the window tint is allowed to be. But in India, where I spent first 19 years of my life, it is always sunny and hot. Tinting all windows except front windshield and part of front windows is very necessary, desirable and causes no significant safety problem. I use my 2 rear view mirrors to view what is coming from behind. I never turn my head backwards while driving. My 2017 Spark has a very good rear view camera which shows clearly what is behind in reverse gear. No body accused governments of being intelligent or practical. So we must put up wit
  3. Like that color a lot! I bought my 2017 6 months ago, and it has exceeded expectations considering the price paid.
  4. I bought a new 2017 Spark LS about 6 months ago, and so far it has exceeded all my expectations except vulnerability to cross winds. It is small and light and tall. So I expected some problems driving over 70 mph with cross winds. Other than I have zero problem with it.
  5. Those are brilliant observations. My usual driving habits are also to accelerate gradually, and the CVT is very smooth without any slipping, which parallels your observations. Actually the CVT responds so quickly and smoothly to my gentle acceleration demand, this 2017 Spark LS is a joy to drive. The 1.4 liter engine gives the right amount of "pep".
  6. CVT is used extensively in golf carts, and I owned one of those for many years. Like your scooter, I never had an issue.
  7. Hi Art, welcome to the Spark owners forum. You are gonna love the gas mileage on your Spark. I think you found a good low mileage car owned by the dealership. As for sleeping in it, I think it is just too small for that. May be with both rear seats folded flat down, a smaller frame person can sleep there. The Spark is so easy to park though. I can parallel park it in places where others cannot. Best luck with your car..
  8. Hey old Gearhead, I never missed those buttons because I never knew they existed in previous years in such an inexpensive car as Spark.. Besides, when I am driving the Spark, my wife controls the radio, so those buttons would not be of much use to me. I just focus on safe driving .. and ignore the radio.
  9. No question is dumb, but answers to questions can be dumb! And yes I drive a 2017 Spark LS, and I know of no way to turn radio off without killing Infotainment system. This answer falls in the dumb category!
  10. Oh yes, my daughter, the millennial, who just graduated from law school Magna Cum Laude, has no job possibilities until she passes the bar exam, just came back from a 2 week vacation in Europe, visiting Paris, Madrid, Barcelona & Amsterdam. She happened to be in Barcelona on the day of recent terror attack, but fortunately was 2 blocks away. Student loans are ridiculously easy to obtain in law school.
  11. It is not so much about competence of mechanics. It is just that at Cadillac dealership they treat you like a big shot. The nearest GM dealer for me is Cadillac and every time I am in for any service, even just an oil change, they feed me a custom order breakfast, free of charge. And Buick dealership personnel are also more respectful of customers than at Chevy dealers. Just a personal observation. With thousands of GM dealerships out there, I am sure there are plenty of exceptions.
  12. Contents inside the reservoir are under some pressure, so glue may not survive. Airplane glue for plastic may work better for a while. My 2011 Chevy HHR also has a plastic see through reservoir, and no leaks after 6+ years & 60k miles. So it is obvious the Spark reservoir has faulty design. GM should redesign and offer free replacements.
  13. Hey there in hot India...I like those shades, and are they removable? But that eBay vendor does not ship to USA! I live in hot Florida as well, and my front window tint is 70% clear. Rear windows is darker, may be 50%. The cops in my town have not bothered me at all. But then I am such a good driver hahaha..
  14. A rocket scientist does not drive a rocket! She designs the rocket so that it is capable to reach intended destination. Similarly a graduate Engineer does not drive a locomotive, she designs the locomotive.
  15. Try taking the car to another GM dealer. It does not have to be a Chevy dealer. Buick or Cadillac dealer will be happy to repair under warranty unless they are very busy already. I agree with Mr Tozzi, that a bad radiator has no way to ingest any motor oil. Most likely it is the main gasket needs replaced which keeps coolant and oil separated. Worse situation would be a crack in engine block. From my experience with dealers, over 53 years of buying new cars, I have been quoted the WRONG repair diagnosis more than once. Not trying to denigrate mechanics, but they will never be rock
  16. Sorry to hear about your experience with Chevy dealers. I have owned 1964 Corvair, 1967 Impala, 1971 Nova, 1977 Malibu, 2011 HHR, 2017 Spark, all purchased new, and had always received decent service from Chevy dealers. But here is a clue, I prefer taking my car to either a Buick dealer or Cadillac dealer for service when possible. Those folks seem to be more responsive, and have much better manners, and seem to have the parts needed for Chevy cars, or they can order the parts. On that 1971 Nova, I had 60K miles on it, when engine suddenly began making horrible hammering sounds. T
  17. There are posters right here on this forum who have been driving their Sparks for over 100k miles without any major issues. But from what I read, those folks take good care of their cars (maintenance, recalls etc) and know a lot about cars. OldGearHead is one of them. I bought my 2017 Spark LS 5-6 months ago, and it is running like a clock, only issue I had was a creaky passenger side front door when opened. The dealer lubricated the hinges but it is still creaking a bit. I can live with it until next time when oil change will be due. And mine is metallic Splash color, and it is a very nice co
  18. Keep the G5 as long as it is running good. I owned this 2007 G5 for 9 years and did not have a single issue with it, although since I am retired, I do not put lots of miles on the cars. My G5 could almost spin the wheels, had much more acceleration than my 2017 Spark LS, was much heavier and stable at very high speeds, and not bothered by cross winds. Spark is light and tall, so does get more affected by cross winds.
  19. When turning with power, there will be more wear on the CV joint. As you can see in above animation, the balls ae sliding in the housing depicting a turn. When going straight, there is no such relative motion and therefore much less wear. When worn, they emit clicking sound. I try to turn at the lowest possible car speed and power to minimize CV joint wear. Consequently I never had issues with CV joints on many front wheel drive cars I have owned and driven. The differential allows the the outer drive wheel to rotate faster than the inner drive wheel during a turn. Th
  20. That is the critical question. I think warranty usually covers only rust through.
  21. Lack of Fuel delivery a likely cause, if it is cranking normal speed. But can be many other reasons.
  22. If you get the cruise control, please report the details?
