Any up to date info on where to buy Oil Filter?
njresler replied to stevesparky's topic in General powertrain discussion
Fram and I think purolator make a filter but can't find them in stores yet. My service dept sells them for around $8 for a/c delco. So I get them there. You can find the parts number on fram and purolator websites. Maybe you can order it. -
WARNING LOW GAS signal
njresler replied to cornflakes's topic in Interior Trim, Seats, Seat Belts, Covers, etc.
My signal comes on with about 30-35 miles left. And around 27 miles the things goes crazy and doesn't allow me to change the status menu. -
The Last Straw......She's done
njresler replied to KatiesSpark's topic in Buying, Leasing, Ordering & Owner Reviews
I loved my 2002 elantra. But I also love my spark. The surprising thing is that avg mpgs for the elantra and spark are not much different and he Electra has a lot more room. If have bought a Hyundai again if they had some thing in a comparable size and styling to the spark, soul. Or cube. Ultimately I went with the spark bc of the infotainment center and the small size. It's mostly just me and occasionally a few people from work going to lunch. My spark is capable of getting 50+ mpg during a trip with ideal conditions and speeds. But I avg around 40 mpg overall everyday driving city and inter -
Removal of muffler difficulty?
njresler replied to LiveFastDieBeautiful's topic in Accessories & Modifications
You can get a muffler at your local parts store or muffler shop. Call and see if they have what you want and which is cheaper. A saws-all or hacksaw will make cutting the pipe where the muffler joins. Welding the muffler back on at that place is best but the make a bolt on type connector that squeezes them together. Also if you look you will see some rubber mounts that the muffler hangs from the car on and some hooks on the muffler. -
What Octane Rating of fuel should I use?
njresler replied to Armando Kulas's topic in Recalls & TSBs
Well it is a vvt high compression engine (10.5:1). So it can use and may even prefer to use the higher octane. But because it is vvt it is able to arrest spark for lower octane and use 87 fine. I do see a Noticable difference in power with 93 perticularly at take off and at 70+ mph. My mpgs are better due to more hp at take off. Also mpgs stay above 40mpg at 70-75mph which I don't get with 87. So it really equals out cost wise. Just up to you in what you want spend up front. -
I do 80-85 in mine with out any issues although I stay around 60 for mpgs however when traffic requires it 75-80 is frequent and with a mass of cars mpgs don't suffer much. Over 65 mph in the auto it will downshift when climbing a hill, but that's because it hits it's peak power at near redline. Its powerband is in the 6500 rpm range.

Mine is more dry and burnt than what I see from spillage. But it's not bad.

May need sea foam or other engine cleaner. Idk really know unless there is a leak somewhere. I am starting to notice a little oil (burnt) residue on outside of engine at the top near head cover.

I thought I read somewhere that the spark came with hundred thousand mile plugs

I use Mobil one full synthetic 5w20 Dexos approved oil. I keep a close eye for any sludge and also check oil level frequently. I have noticed a small amount of oil usage ( about 4-8 oz over 4k miles). I change my oil at least 7500 miles. But rely on the oil life monitor and change it around 20-30%. Which tends to be around 5-6k miles. I was told a new tab is out that they should not go 7500 miles between changes regardless of oil monitor. I've seen no sludge or any signs of it. But if I do I'll be using some sea foam or B12 chemtool. I do prefer sea foam for its safer usage.

I have a 2013 it's not a cvt and the problem sounds the same as I have. I am hopeful but doubtful that the injector change will fix anything.
-
I have a similar issue and my 2013 they are replacing the injectors
-
So far for sluggishness/hesitation they are replacing my injectors.
-
Also the oil definetly looks used and darker now. But not black and opaque.
-
So after some reading and research the vvt engines and oil life monitor can cause sludge build up if the right oil is not used. Also even with an oil life monitor it's important to still check your oil levels and look for sludge build up in crank case by taking off the oil fill cap and looking. I just check my oil it just now has 3k miles since last change. The oil life monitor says it's still 57%. I tend to change mine around 20-30% any ways. So I'll probably get another 3k miles out of this oil. However, it was at the full hash marks when I changed it. But now it's at the half way mark. So I

Tear in Leatherette
njresler replied to Gadget_Girl's topic in Interior Trim, Seats, Seat Belts, Covers, etc.
Should be covered by the bumper to bumper warranty provided you aren't over 36k miles. I always make sure to keep mine coated with vinyl protectant. Makes it easier to get in and out too. -
Spark fuel mileage not as good as I thought
njresler replied to cornflakes's topic in Fuel Mileage & M.P.G.
E10 was developed to get rid of the evil MMT. But really it just bumps the octane and makes it cheaper for the oil companies. -
Highway speed is hard on the spark. 40-60 will get great mpg. But really 45-50 is optimal. The key to 50+mpg on the interstate at 70-75 mph is drafting. I don't care what kinda vehicle you get behind pretty much anything is bigger than the Spark. Although, semis are great even at safe distances. No need to be right up on bumper. You can stay at a distance where the truck can you you (ie you can see its mirrors). But I'm sure most of us are familiar with hypermiling techniques. So as cars pass they give use a push. The key is to find a nice pocket at a reasonable and safe speed.

first road trip, TPMS (!) light
njresler replied to Barry Doubleu's topic in General powertrain discussion
I've done 10 hours from Indiana to Texarkana. It did great. -
Mine is done well. I love it. Had the a\c fixed and I'm getting four new injectors installed due to a issue with mild hesitation when a\c is on. My only disappointment was I wanted a 14 and got a 13

Not to my knowledge. It's an electronic controlled shift that adapts to the driver's style of driving. But it's a pretty old designed off the shelf tranny and is simply 4 gears plus reverse.
-
My car is in the recall. Why have I not been notified by GM, the dealer, or when I've had it in for service the past few weeks for my a/c and now the replacement of my injectors.
-
Oh I have a 4 speed auto 2LT. Wished and thought I was getting the 2014 with cvt but didn't pay as close attention as I should and got a 2013 with regular tranny. So over 60mpgs kills my mpgs. However at 75 mph with traffic to draft I stay around 42 mpgs. But have to have the right conditions.

Got an avg mpg rating of 51.5 during a 98% interstate trip of about 90 miles going 60mph with pretty heavy but steady traffic so got a lot of drafting and some pushing from the cars passing. A/C was on full. Because I had just left the dealer for a/c fix. I'm glad my mpgs are back up. They had dropped with the a/c being messed up.

I've had a hesitation since I bought the car. I've had right at a year now and I'm at 19500 miles on the odo. I'm hoping not to get the oil issues. So far so good. The hesitation is intermittent and more frequent with a/c on. FYI got that fixed today and so far so good. But while it was in for service I mentioned the hesitation issues. They did Some testing and they are replacing all four injectors. Hope all is well after that and it's the last of the bugs to be worked out. Anyone else have injector issues?
